Agents are workflow systems
An agent is not just a model with a prompt. In production, an agent is a workflow system that can reason, use tools, read context, update state, ask for help, and recover from failure.
Agent readiness means you can define:
- the goal
- the allowed tools
- the context sources
- the stored state
- the approval gates
- the verification checks
- the escalation path
- the recovery path
McKinsey's 2026 AI trust research is useful here because it reframes risk for the agentic era. The issue is no longer only whether AI says the wrong thing. It is whether AI does the wrong thing.
